Shakespeare & Company is proud to have been honored with four Berkshire Theatre Awards. At a ceremony held in Pittsfield last week, the Board of the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association presented 21 Berkshire Theatre Awards. This was the third year the awards have been presented to honor and celebrate the excellence and diversity of theatre in the greater Berkshire region.
The 2018 awards display the commitment of regional theatres presenting new and diverse work. Critics J. Peter Bergman and Macey Levin once again hosted the ceremony, which honored Shakespeare & Company in four categories.
“It was wonderful to see such a great turnout of theatre artists from the community last week,” said Artistic Director Allyn Burrows. “The Berkies are a fun way to acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved in keeping culture alive and thriving in the Berkshires.”
Long-time Company Member John Hadden was named Outstanding Supporting actor in a Play for his work in HIR, James Warwick a first time Director with the Company was named Outstanding Director of a Play for Mothers and Sons, and veteran Company Actress Annette Miller was named Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play for her performance in Mothers and Sons. Additionally, the Company’s Education Department led by Education Director and one of the Company’s founding members Kevin G. Coleman, received the distinguished Larry Murray Award for Community Outreach and Support through Theater for the Shakespeare in the Courts and Fall Festival of Shakespeare programs.
“I’m thrilled and grateful to be a part of a company and community that nurtures the creative spirit,” said Miller. “I’m thankful to the Berkshire Critics Association, our wonderful cast, director and of course to Allyn who chose this poignant Terrence McNally play for our 2018 Season.”
“We are honored to receive this award, and we are so proud to be part of this community, a place that our Company has called home for the last 40 years,” said Coleman. “We have had the distinct pleasure of serving the educational community for the past 30 years and could not be more grateful for that opportunity.”
