Performances Run August 4 through September 4, 2016
(Lenox, MA) – Shakespeare & Company presents The Two Gentlemen of Verona, beginning Thursday August 4th. Written by William Shakespeare, and directed by Co-Artistic Director Jonathan Croy, this early romantic comedy takes a gleeful look at the fickle nature of young love, playing in-the-round at the Tina Packer Playhouse through September 4, 2016.
“The Two Gentlemen of Verona is a terrific little comedy, and one that you don’t get to see very often,” said Director Jonathan Croy. “It’s a play about four young people stumbling around the maze of love and longing, with full hearts and broken ones. It’s about deep friendships and betrayals just as deep. It’s about true love and infatuation. There are two love triangles, two fathers tripping over their desire to do right by their children, two of Shakespeare’s greatest clowns, and a dog!”
Croy’s production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona features Company veteran Ryan Winkles as Valentine, with a cast of long-time Company actors including, Kate Abbruzzese (Julia), Peter Andersen (Pantheno), Jason Asprey (Speed), Erick Avari (Duke), Thomas Brazzle (Proteus), John Hadden (Launce), and Cloteal L. Horne (Sylvia). Actors new to the Company in 2016 include, Tamara Hickey (Lucetta), Shahar Isaac (Eglamore), Michael Fuchs (Antonio), Deaon Griffin-Pressley (Outlaw) Bella Merlin (Outlaw), andDylan Wittrock (Thurio). The creative team includes Kris Stone (Set Design), Matthew Miller (Lighting Design), Iain Fisher (Sound Design), Stella Schwartz (Costume Design), Susan Dibble (Choreography) and original music by Luke Reed.
