Shakespeare & Company Earns Eight Berkshire Theatre Award Nominations

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Shakespeare & Company has earned eight Berkshire Theatre Award nominations from the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association (BTCA), recognizing performances that opened in the greater Berkshire region between October 1, 2021, and September 30, 2022.

Shakespeare & Company nominated shows and performances include:

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play

Caroline Calkins as Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play

Logan Slater as Jet in Golden Leaf Ragtime Blues

Outstanding Solo Performance

MaConnia Chesser as The Poet in An Iliad (also performed at Ancram Opera House)

Outstanding Sound Design of a Play or Musical

Amy Altadonna for The Chairs

Outstanding Ensemble Performance

Nicole Ansari, Elizabeth Aspenlieder, and Michelle Joyner in The Approach

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play Glenn Barrett as Pompey in Golden Leaf Ragtime Blues L. James as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing

Outstanding Production of a Play A Walk in the Woods by Lee Blessing, directed by James Warwick

This year, 93 nominees in 21 categories were culled from the 354 votes of critics, covering productions at theaters in four states – Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and New York. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on the evening of Monday, Nov.14 at Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, Mass.

“The Berkies are purposely held in the fall when everyone is a little more relaxed,” said BTCA Board President J. Peter Bergman. “The awards ceremony gives artists and critics a chance to network in a festive environment.”
