Commissioner of Public Works, City of Pittsfield

Ricardo Morales is the Commissioner of Public Works for the City of Pittsfield, where he has made his home for over 13 years. A proud alumnus of the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, Ricardo earned his BS in Civil Engineering, setting the foundation for a career committed to enhancing municipal infrastructure. From 2009 to 2017, Ricardo focused on construction project management, within various construction projects in Puerto Rico, Western Massachusetts and the Berkshires. His work spanned several key sectors, including military, education, and institutional projects, where he applied his expertise to meet diverse needs and challenges.

In his role as Commissioner and previously as City Engineer in Pittsfield, Ricardo has played a pivotal role in advancing the city’s infrastructure, focusing on crucial water and sewer improvements and the development of a safer transportation network. At the heart of his efforts is the drive to create safer, more accessible streets for all, especially prioritizing the needs of the city’s most vulnerable road users.

Ricardo’s dedication extends beyond his immediate responsibilities. He represents Pittsfield in the Berkshire Flyer Initiative and actively participates in the Berkshire Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). Additionally, he contributes his expertise as a member of the Downtown Pittsfield Inc. Board of Directors and the Berkshire Transportation Advisory Committee and co-chairs the 1Berkshire, Berkshire Leadership Program, reinforcing his commitment to nurturing and fostering local leadership and talent. His leadership and commitment to the community have earned him the Berkshire Community College 40 under 40 award in 2020 and in 2023, Ricardo’s contributions were recognized by the Massachusetts State Legislature and the Black and Latino Legislative Caucus with the “Latino Excellence Award.” This underscores his impactful work and dedication to the community, particularly highlighting his efforts to support and uplift minority communities within Massachusetts.

Ricardo, his wife Melissa, and their two children, Nico and Nati, live in Pittsfield, the heart of the Berkshires.
