Emily DeVoti

Emily DeVoti joined Shakespeare & Company’s Development team in 2025. A playwright and longtime collaborator, she has been affiliated with the company since 1995, the same year she participated in the month-long Intensive actor training program.

Emily brings a rich background in theater and journalism, with administrative experience in both nonprofit and for-profit sectors. She is an Affiliated Artist with New Georges theater and served as the founding Theater Editor of The Brooklyn Rail (2000–2020). Her plays have been developed and presented in New York City and at the National Theater Studio in London, and published by Samuel French, Smith & Kraus, and Indie Theater Now. She holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU/Tisch and a BA from Princeton University and has taught playwriting as an adjunct professor at Tisch and Mt. Holyoke College. Emily is also a former McDowell Colony Fellow.

A Berkshires native, Emily saw Shakespeare & Company’s very first production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Mount—an experience that sparked her lifelong love of the arts.

Emily lives in Great Barrington with her husband and their son, who participates in Riotous Youth! She is delighted to have the opportunity to meet people who are drawn to Shakespeare & Company and to help nurture this community of theatergoers and alumni. She feels honored to be part of the team looking back at the company’s first 50 years and focusing on how to sustain it for the next 50.
