Merry Conway is a teacher and performer. She teaches a range of subjects: Movement for Actors, Clown, and has developed original pedagogy on The Embodied Humors, Emotions and Passions, Wit and Wordplay and Fool.  She was a protege of Trish Arnold in London, and that work still provides a strong foundation for subsequent work. She also trained at the Ecole Jacques Lecoq.  Merry is also a Founding Teacher at Shakespeare & Company, having taught at the first January Workshop in 1980 and brought Clown into the company pedagogy. She became the Clownmaster in 1983 and received an NEA to study Clown and Fool in Shakespeare. She has taught at: LA Women’s Shakespeare, Actor’s Shakespeare Company, Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Carnegie-Melon University, New York University, Emerson University and Brandeis University. She co-taught several workshops with Kristin Linklater at The Kristin Linklater Center in Orkney Scotland, and has taught for 20 years at The Linklater Center in New York City for their annual Voice, Body, Shakespeare workshop. Merry has conducted workshops in Rome, Tuscania, and Calabria for the past 14 years, and recently in Seoul. Additionally, Merry was a coach for Anna Deavere Smith for 10 years, working on several of her seminal pieces in NYC and LA, and for 20 years, was a performer and Co-Director with Conway & Pratt Projects, creating large-scale installations and performance with a strong community element along with her collaborator, Noni Pratt. Merry was lucky enough to perform in Susan Dibble’s Dibbledance for many years.
